Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Accelerated Resolution Therapy is an emerging trauma-focused psychotherapy that uses guided imagery, eye movements, and image rescripting to help change distressing emotional and physical responses connected with painful memories. Detailed verbal disclosure of the traumatic event is not always required.
Research has reported reductions in PTSD symptoms in adults, including military service members and veterans, and ART is often delivered over a relatively brief course. The evidence base is still developing; a 2024 systematic review found ART promising while calling for more high-quality studies.
Ricardo may incorporate Accelerated Resolution Therapy when clinically appropriate and consistent with a client’s needs, goals, and treatment plan. Accelerated Resolution Therapy does not guarantee a particular outcome.
Targets distressing memories and associated emotional or physical reactions.
The clinician guides the process while the client remains in control of content and pace.
Studies often use a small number of sessions, though needs vary by person.
This information is educational. A clinical assessment is required to determine whether Accelerated Resolution Therapy is appropriate.
